New Year’s Resolutions to Make a Difference for Wildlife

What are your New Year’s resolutions for actions to help wild animals?  I’m consistently struck by how powerful we, as consumers, can be — and consequently how important it is to educate ourselves about where the products we buy come from. For example, most of us don’t realize that 50% of the products on our grocery store shelves contain palm oil–from soap to processed food–and that much of that comes from industrial plantations in Indonesia and Indonesia that are destroying orangutan and Sumatran rhino habitat and contributing to carbon emissions.  Born Free USA has put together a list of simple resolutions that can make a significant difference for wild animals, including supporting retailers that don’t sell products that harm wildlife (like fur), buying pet supplies from stores that don’t sell live animals (especially exotic wildlife), and co-existing with the wildlife in your backyard.
